XVI The Tower

Yoko Ono

I’ve chosen Yoko Ono to represent The Tower card for my tarot portrait series. While this card typically signifies destruction, upheaval, and chaos, there’s an element of the archetype that I think more poetically represents Yoko. On the traditional card, a tower is struck by a lightning bolt. This bolt represents a stroke of clarity/insight which ultimately is the trigger for chaos - as you have changed and now so must your world. I think people often conflate these two aspects of change, and this is when we may see scapegoats (much like Yoko herself). In this portrait, Yoko represents the introduction of new ideas and new ways of being which trigger destruction of outmoded systems, followed by reinvention.
